Professionals in audio-visual document centres

In recent years, the audio-visual communication media have experienced spectacular changes that have greatly affected document centres. Beginning with the experience of the Document Department of Televisió de Catalunya, the author describes certain characteristics based on what professionals have noted about their work: constant redefinition of duties, lack of definition of requirements needed by professionals entering the field, and a lack of both an initial specialised training and of sites for discussing and exchanging information and experiences.
