The 4/1993 Law and public libraries

This article reviews Catalonia's Library System Law emphasising those aspects that establish a new direction for Catalan public libraries. It deals with the establishment of the unification of networks, municipalization, union catalogues, public libraries map and support services. Concerning  municipalization, there are unsolved questions that concern the possible set up of this: questions related to staff, such as their mobility and access to  work places and even structural aspects, such as financing and maintenance of public libraries within the new legal framework.
