An introduction to the theoretical foundation of information visualisation and to the most broadly adopted models, with examples taken from the field of library and information science. A simple model for creating visualisations is illustrated. The article offers readers a range of information sources for a basic understanding of the subject as wellas for keeping up-to-date.
