The analysis of current mass unemployment leads us to a long half-century of Spanish economic history, from the time of the Stabilisation Plan and the collapse of Franquism, because it supposes a very high starting-point and some of its main causes persist. In particular, the incapacity to overcome the peripheral articulation of the Spanish economic system with the European, inasmuch as it entails the eventual unsustainability of economic and employment growth due to foreign over-indebtedness. It happened thus throughout the developments leading to the Stabilisation Plan, the crisis of the democratic Transition, the accelerated integration into the European Union, and the millennial boom leading to the current crisis.
