Maragall: the atonic pronouns as a symptom

This work proposes an approach to Joan Maragall's language use and the criteria that could govern it based on the analysis of a specific grammatical aspect –the uses of atonic pronouns– in a specific text –the “Elogi de la paraula”–, and puts Maragall's language in relation with the linguistic orientations and ideas, strictly contemporary, that young Pompeu Fabra was beginning to spread and which constitute the basis of the modern codification of Catalan, a codification that, precisely, has interfered in a remarkable way on the view that scholars have traditionally had about the Maragall language.
