This article analyses the communicative sphere of history, that is to say, history as a discourse that intercedes in the present. Effectively, this points to the writing of history, in relation but beyond its research practices. To develop this aspect,
the present essay relies on the idea of the theory of history as found in the work of Michel de Certeau. In addition, with reference to the novel El camino de Ida by Ricardo Piglia, the category of frontier is proposed as a tool for history’s theoretical reflection. Lastly, historiography and fiction will be compared as communicative processes that, even if they do not share the same principles in terms of the definition of truth and historical representation, both employ rhetorical strategies that facilitate an analysis of history’s discursivity.
