Whistleblowing in Sports: A case study of Whistleblowing in Caribbean Sports

Main Article Content

Rudolph K. Alleyne

This applied research paper examines the issue of whistleblowing in sport globally but more specifically

in the Caribbean. It highlights some of the major incidences of whistleblowing in sports. The dearth in

whistleblowing research, policies and procedures specific to sport was underscored as one major area of

concern. A need for greater examination of issues related to whistleblowing in sport, along with the accessibility

to whistleblowing platforms education material, the development and implementation of policies and strategies

protect the whistleblowers were ascertained as major areas of concern. One major issue related to whistle

blowing in sport is the reluctance of whistleblowers to expose offenders for fear of retaliation or punitive action

against them. Two factors which may encourage whistleblowing include a greater awareness of reporting

mechanisms as well as encouraging anonymity for the whistleblowers.
