This paper is addressed to present the preliminary results obtained from techno-morphological analysis of the lithic assemblage recovered in the Altos del Varela site (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina). The general aim is to contribute to the study of the lithic production strategies implemented by the hunters – gatherers groups who occupied this mountain landscape. The archaeological assemblage mainly comprises lithic débitage made from rhyolites and fine grain tuff of the Lemaire Formation. The materials have a heterogeneous spatial distribution with areas of higher concentrations. The present analysis suggests that Altos del Varela was a workshop where the manufacture of instruments or blanks was carried out taking advantage of local raw materials.
