This article deals with the political and educational problem of pain by using the
queer/crip hermeneutics and the biographical example of struggle embodied by Audre
Lorde. We consider the semantic potential of pain and the social openings that may
boost its (re)appropriation by subaltern groups. That is, a hermeneutic exercise is conducted
which brings together the feminism of Audre Lorde, the queer/crip theory and
the use of the experience of pain and disease as politicizable phenomena. We take up
Lordes embodied experience of subalternity, the queer/crip hermeneutics of pain, their
relationship with the authors discourse and the inclusion of this stance in the social pedagogy of the 21st century.
