This article analyzes the experience of an adult education centre that emerged as a response to the cultural situation and educational needs of the working class neighbourhoods in the north of the city of Barcelona, particularly the district of Nou Barris, between the end of Franco’s dictatorship and the mid 1980s. The shortcomings detected among the population, led to the implementation of various initiatives by local movements, with special emphasis on the proposals for pedagogical renewal. The result of this was the creation of a wide network of social, cultural and educational projects, among which we highlight «Freire» Adults’ School.
