Main Article Content
The main objective of this work is to characterize the behavior of the fundamental frequency, intensity, the vowel duration and the pauses in the paratones demarcation (topical units) of the oral academic discourse. The study is carried out with a sample of 50 paratones, segmented from 10 university lectures. From the combination of methods of perceptual, acoustic and statistical analysis, results are obtained that allow explaining the value of prosody in the topical organization of this type of discourse. The study demonstrates the use of tonal and intensity reset as more evident mark of paratone change.
