The realization of the phoneme /q/ in the Arabic dialectal varieties in Jordan: Analysis of oral traditional tales

The occlusive uvular-velar phoneme /q/ and its allophones in the different dialectal varieties of Arabic in Jordan constitute a relevant phonological variable within the ethnonational community of this country. This paper presents the results of the analysis of materials that account for the ethnolinguistic map of Jordan, as well as sociolinguistic and pragma-discursive variables that explain the use of the /q/ in traditional storytelling.
