What we attempt here, in a period in which Bohemia was at the same time a Iiterary topic and a social and historic reality, is to think of Bohemia as a metaphor for another possible society. That i s why the twelve novels referred to here progressively outline the figure of the Modern Woman (bohemian par excellence as she breaks away from the prevalent customs) by means of three female figures, each of which embodies the three historical stages of women's liberation - a liberation that entails, however, changing the norms that rule society and the minds of people.
