Main Article Content
This article deals with the lexical and, to a lesser extent, phonetic materials, provided by the Linguistic Atlas of the Iberian Peninsula in the two locations surveyed on the island of Ibiza, Vila (the capital) and Sant Joan (northern rural area). We show in detail, according to the contrastive criterion, the numerous ibicenquismos it contains, that is, the particular forms of Catalan used in the island. To carry out this selection task, we use the Diccionari català-valencià-balear, and other related sources. We argue that the ALPI is a fundamental tool for reconstructing the recent linguistic history of Ibiza. It also exemplifies the external influences and the internal development that give a strong personality to the Ibiza dialect version of Catalan.
