Sergio Givone
The article deals with myth and reason in the technical world of a diffuse aestheticism. The question posed: does technical reason destroy the myth or establish together with the myth an obscure relationship at the moment of its destruction? There exists a time and a place in which that question has received a definitive reply, which while no doubt debateable should nevertheless be borne in mind: Germany between the First and Second World Wars. It ison these contradictory replies that the author bases this discussion in establishing a relationship with some of the main elements of the ideological ferment of the century -Weber, Nietzsche, Jünger, Lukacs, Adorno and Horkheimer. Subsequently the text focusses on the root of the problem which the latter authors sought to solve in the Dialectics of the Enlightenment, tracing a path from Kant to Heidegger; and finishes by examining the new interpretation made of the problem in the last third of the century.
