Virtuous virginity in medieval women mystics (Elisabet Cifre and others)

Main Article Content
When she was barely a young teenager, the Majorcan beguine Elisabet Cifre freely chose virginity in a mystical celebration that inaugurated her spiritual life. Similarly, we have many testimonies of women who, throughout the Middle Ages, abandoned their married lives to become beguines. These women understood that virginity is virtuous because it can be cultivated. Choosing it was a source of wealth that beautified the mystics, covered them with adornments, and showed them a fertile path to pleasure.
