Somos las únicas poetas – todos los demás son prosa

María-Milagros Rivera Garretas

This text is an interpretation of the love relationship between
Emily Dickinson and Susan Huntington Gilbert (from 1856
Susan Huntington Dickinson) in the light of medieval European
Beguine mysticism, in particular their great discovery: le Loingprés,
the Far Near, a discovery developed in texts of Hadewijch de
Amberes and in the Miroir des simples Ames of Margarita Porete.
The Beguines were a literary topic of the Victorian period, one
that Emily Dickinson knew, admired and mentions in her poetic
works. I also look at the desire and the plan of Emily Dickinson,
clearly expressed in her correspondence with Susan, to hold
clitoral nuptials with her and to live freely from the poetry of both,
without incest or submission to the Dickinsons, father and son.
