The history of the Catalan alternative press: A chronological and typological approach

This paper takes a preliminary approach to the history of the alternative press in Catalonia, which it structures in six periods, ranging from the last half of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st. We describe the kind of alternative publications that emerged in each of the phases and classify them according to the main alternative media types established by international research, highlighting representative journals from each category and period. In this way, we define the trends in the alternative press and provide an initial characterization of its evolution as a whole.
