Today, Diego Ruiz Rodríguez (1881-1959) is an almost unknown philosopher. Neither his thought nor his life have been thoroughly studied. However, he had an important role in the development of Catalan national philosophy, as the founder of the first institution strictly devoted to philosophy in Catalonia: the Fundació Catalana de Filosofia. This institution counted with the contribution of several important Catalan intellectuals, such as Manuel de Montoliu, Lluís Nicolau i d’Olwer, Josep Farran i Mayoral and Eladi Homs i Oller, as well as the Spanish intellectual Adolfo Bonilla y San Martín.
