From a sentence of Simone Weil about the Mysticism of the Spanish Counter-Reformation as “Refuge for the Spirit of Truth” that made possible the survival of the Catholic Church, we approach Simone Weil’s understanding of Mysticism. We will follow the paths proposed by Saint Teresa of Jesus, teacher and example of Spanish mysticism, relying on the methodology proposed by the magisterium of Saint Ignatius of Loyola for discernment. With the help of philosophers like St. Augustine and Edith Stein, we will empty the conceptual meaning of “Spirit of Truth” to arrive, with Stein and Weil, at the understanding that mysticism is a path for the survival of humanity.
