Cultural and social imaginary of the political thinking of early Pujolism

This paper puts forward an interpretative consideration of the symbolic imaginary and mental frameworks recreated in the political thinking of Jordi Pujol from the late 1950s to the founding of the political party Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya. By examining Pujol’s early published writings, the essay traces various symbolic elements that doctrinally underpin the story and imaginaries of early Pujolism, which were constructed in political and practical terms, but primarily had clear foundational, hegemonic and power-oriented purposes. This approach to the
figure of Pujol sees him as a catalyst for the evolution of traditional Catholic Catalan nationalism into a modern nationalism that synthesises tradition and Noucentisme.
