In this paper the vision of Valladolid offered in the novel La emparedada del Corral de Campanas, of José Luis Guerra Fernández, is analyzed, comparing it with that given in some tourist guides of the city. We analyze the rhetorical and persuasive strategies employed in the novel and in tourist guides. In the novel, the protagonist movement of a large number of streets of the city is minutely described, always specifying their names, which is an original and attractive resource. In addition, some historical events and the names of the streets of Valladolid in which they occurred are explained, relating these ancient streets with current and indicating the changes they have experienced in their names. All this raises the question of the type of “ideal reader” to whom the novel is addressed, because not all readers, even the generality of residents in the city, know where are all the named streets or the history of Valladolid.
