Protected areas in Andorra: challenges, proposals and perspectives at the beginning of the 21th century

This paper presents a diagnosis of the main challenges that natural heritage conservation is facing in Andorra, centred on protected areas, with its strengths and weaknesses, in the face of the tremendous pressures created by the exponential growth of the tertiary sector, driven by mass-tourism. It suggests the main guidelines for the establishment of a coherent system of protected areas, based on international directives, and fully integrated with adjacent existing reserves in neighbouring countries.
