In light of various theoretical proposals, we analyze some of Angel Boligán’s cartoons from the book Love and Other Lies(2016), to identify the way in which they fit or are distanced from definitions of the fantastic. We also analyze some resources that the graphic artist uses to propitiate humorous and fantastic effects. Our study allows us to verify the importance of interpretive cultural codes in the capture of fantastic and humoristic effects, to check the operation and limits of some methodological considerations, to identify points of contact between humor and fantasy, but, above all, to further knowledge of the work of an artist who has outstanding international recognition.
