Since the beginning of cinema in the early 20th century the city has been used as a significant context to portray a diverse variety of subjects and stories. The origin of big cities as artificial habitats constructed around the idea of order, caused the displacement of rural traditions and lifestyles to the urban landscape and, consequently, the rise of new conflicts for human beings. The expressions of the fantastic, formerly placed in the countryside, moved into the city and its contents and ideas were updated in order to incorporate the urban setting in the storytelling and narrative of this genre. The following article strives to investigate connections between the city as a modern context and its relations with the fantastic as represented in the film Enemy (Villeneuve, 2013).
