Does magic exist?: truth(s) and perspective(s) from the analysis of a Japanese graphic novel

Main Article Content

Francisco David García Martín

The aim of this paper is to approach the dispute of the struggle between reality and fiction in the Japanese graphic novel Umineko no naku koro ni (2007-2010). Faced with the rupture of reality that occurs in the fantastic genre, the debate about the limits of fiction, and how it can serve to explain our world in a much more convincing way than realistic logic and reasoning itself, confronts us as readers with the need to accept the unusual and unexpected as part of our daily existence. This is why a work such as the one analyzed in this work is of great interest in the attempt to understand how truth can be divided and multiplied according to a perspective display that forces us to accept the possibility that different realities can coexist.
