Beyond the Devil: the reconfiguration of the demonic pact from video games and aluxes in the contemporary Mexican LIJ

This article shows how the classic theme of the satanic pact is updated in Mexican literature from its own context in the 21st century, by including technological elements of the time, as well as its own pre-Hispanic traditions, such as fusing the traditional figure of the Devil with the beliefs of the Mayan worldview, in this case the aluxes. In addition to showing the reconfiguration of this fantastic theme, we analyze what this means within the tradition of children's and youth literature, since the subversive connotations of this genre also work to destabilize sociocultural notions of childhood and adolescence. In this sense, the work presented here analyzes «Abaddon Tenebrae» by Antonio Malpica and «Cambio de vías» by Ana Romero from the syntactic and semantic aspects of the fantastic and the demonic pact, but also its implications at a social level from a transgressive discourse.
