Since 1997 nothing has been published on the state of the issue that concerns our work. However, there have been several cases of relevant research in recent years that have discussed and furthered our knowledge of the trade of the Manila Galleons. The aim of this paper is to contribute to explaining the system that Spain set up for the trade with the Manila Galleons during the period between 1593 and 1785, and specifically regarding the cargo. This may seem to be a very well trodden area, but delving deeper into the bibliography it becomes evident that information is lacking, clichés are repeated, and contradictions between authors appear.
