The purpose of this article is to discuss some of Roberto M. Ortiz’s political ideas during the conservative restoration in Argentina in the late thirties, especially in regard to how democracy and the party system were to be organized after the crisis in 1930. It is supposed that democratization and nationalization were two complementary dimensions of his political ideology. Thus, three (failed) legislative initiatives endorsed by the President in Congress are analyzed, in order
to reflect on how these ideas were linked to his project to democratize the political system and advance the «nationalization» of Argentine society in the late thirties
