Mesoamerica was one of the autonomous epicentres in the Ancient World where agriculture techniques, State-level complex societies, and the development and maturity of commercial institutions fl ourished. Although it is widely accepted that trade and marketplace were key mechanisms in Postclassic Mesoamerican (AD. 1150 – 1521) socioeconomic integration dynamics, we lack with an evident corpus of methodological and theoretical resources on their research for early cultural stages. The present paper contributes with a systematic perspective above current trends on Mesoamerican trade archaeological research. We take account of three analytical levels: production and purchase, distribution degree, and consumption patterns.
