The article describes the aspects professional librarians should consider when recommending comics authored by women. First, it reviews the history of the relationship between women and the comic and examines the roles women have played as authors, as well as other contextual aspects that explain the approach to gender that has characterised most of the well-known books in this genre authored by women since 2000. The article then creates a profile of different types of reader. Finally, it reviews a selection of women-authored comics in which the writer’s gender has been instrumental in the moment of creating the work.
