Canon Recared was Bishop Guadamir of Vic’s trusted confidant and secretary. He was the author of the copy and final version of the decree to reform the Vic cathedral canon community in 957 as well as of other anonymous texts. Palaeographic, linguistic and literary analysis demonstrates his abilities and cultural achievements. The work of other canons allows us to determine the varying degrees of cultural development of the Vic canons throughout the first century after the restoration of the cathedral and its possible causes. The end of the 10th century saw the beginning of the splendour of the times of Oliba, with the help of collaborators such as the grammarian Guibert, and Canon Ermemir Quintilà.
