Autobiography and Identity: The Case of Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda

The Enlightenment and Romanticism were periods of exaltation of identity and difference, specifically, of women's own spaces. This circumstance can be related to the construction of an identity of its own, a female subject that, in the case of Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, becomes evident in her Autobiography. In this paper, we will analyze the emergence of the author's own subjectivity from the writing of herself to another, but also to herself. As we will see, this circumstance will be unbreakable of the conceptual triad formed by public life, private life and the personal elaboration of a self that echoes the romantic literary models.
