This communication aims to articulate the phenomenon of progress –here understood through a Benjaminian perspective that conceives it as “a storm that produces a heap of rubble”– and its relationship with the economic state of exception, taking the Brazilian Quilombola territories as an intersection point of this analysis. Recognizing that our reality is full of homines sacri, full of bare lives and that the sovereign decision is increasingly privatized by economic corporations, we chose the problems faced by traditional quilombolas communities to ponder the intended articulation, since the quilombo, as well as other traditional communities, seems to be a fertile barn to concretely analyze the institutes presented by Agam-ben and Benjamin, likewise to evaluate the nonsense of progress.
