Orwell’s Penultime Prophecies in Coming Up For Air (1939). A Comparison with Byung Chul Han’s Works

The striking similarities between the novel Coming Up For Air (1939) and Byung-Chul Han’s books on present-day technological society is the object of this paper. Both, the English writer-journalist and the German philosopher, diagnosed and described the same illnesses. The paper focuses mainly on the problem of Entzeitlichung, the disappear-ance of time, and if and how it is possible to regain a contemplative look that prevents time from dissolving.
