Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are producing rapid changes in
social, cultural, economic and educational domains. Never before so many people have
had access to technological innovations in such a short time. But besides opportunities, this
is a society of barriers: not only creates new gaps between social groups, but maintains
the previous though articulated differently. In fact, to adequate human capital to the
requirements of the Information and Knowledge Society, and promote real digital inclusion,
it is necessary to reduce the digital divide, and this is especially important for women.
This article contains reflections and lessons learned from the analysis of the sessions of
eight focus groups conducted with different profiles of women Internet users and non-users,
and control groups conducted with men. This type of analysis allows exploring the gender digital divide while becoming aware of a wide range of nuances linked to the relationship
between women and the new technologies, as well as identifying differences and similarities
according to the different profiles of women users and non-users. The goal is to offer clues
to guide new strategies and actions for digital inclusion according to the specificities of the
various groups of women.
