Gender differences in the architecture of mendicant orders have been a constant feature throughout history. Monks’ and nuns’ needs are reflected in the architecture of convents and monasteries, and even in their location within towns. This research looks at gender differences using documents written by their key figures and by analyzing the Counter Reformation’s effect on the mendicant orders’ environments.
