‘Memories of my childhood’ by Joan Teixidor, the first of Verdaguer’s Folgueroles friends

Main Article Content

Joan Vilamala

This article recovers, presents and contextualizes written remembrances dealing with Jacint Verdaguer (overlooked by all the poet’s biographers), penned by a childhood friend who signs with the initials J. T., whom we understand to be Joan Teixidor, and whom we know lent Verdaguer the dress clothes and barretina he wore to the Jocs Florals in Barcelona in 1865. Joan Teixidor i Colomer (1840-1920) was a tailor from Folgueroles who established himself in Girona and remained there until his death, and who had dealings with Josep Franquet i Serra, poet, printer and writer for the magazine Vida, biweekly of literature and art in Girona, where the texts were published in 1902 in two instalments under the title ‘Memories of my childhood.’
