[eng] Between 2008 and 2011 various observers gathered information of
possible breeding of Common Buzzard Buteo buteo in the Esporlas valley
area of Mallorca. In 2011 first breeding record was confirmed with the
sighting of a family group at the end of June in an area of Esporlas that
neighbours Valldemossa. Between 2012 and 2016 numerous observations
were made during the breeding season of territorial individuals and groups
in different areas of Mallorca, thus suggesting an estimate of five to ten territorial
pairs. In 2015 the first occupied nest with young was found at an
estate in Marratxí. In 2016 a second nest was located with an incubating
adult and subsequently at least one chick at an estate in the lluchmajor
coastal area. In addition, the first pair with confirmed breeding intent continues
in 2016 to maintain its territory between Esporlas and Valldemossa.
Therefore, a change of status in Mallorca to rare breeder is recommended.
