Thanks to the research of Church historians like Josep Pou i Martí, Joaquim Carreras i Artau and Josep Perarnau i Espelt, we know about several Catalan beguines who passed through the small town of Castelló d’Empúries. New research on some judicial enquiries preserved in the Episcopal Archives of Girona allows to add more information on some Beguine women natural from Castelló, like Resplendina, or Beguine women who spent some years there in penance, like Cecília Medir and Bonanata Baldac, widow and daughter of Girona citizen Pere Duran de Baldac, who was burned at the stake in July 1321. The aim of this study is to gather and catalogue all references relating to Beguins who lived or stayed in the town of Castelló d’Empúries during the first half of fourteenth century in order to connect them to other Catalan Beguine communities, like those from Girona and Vilafranca del Penedès.
