The recent archaeological intervention carried out in Sant Iscle (Baix Empordà, Catalonia, Spain) has uncovered an extensive silo pit outside the limits of the churchyard, whose disposition takes place in an advanced phase of the twelfth century or already at the beginning of the thirteenth century. The purpose of this article is to relate the finding of this silo pit with the origins of the churchyard Sant Iscle. At that time, the fortification of the village takes place as well as substantial changes in the immediate surroundings of the parish, also on an architectural scale, given that the church is fortified. Who owns this silo pit? Where do the products that are stored there come from? It is certain that its amortization takes place from an advanced moment of the thirteenth century, in the middle of the conflict between the counts of Empúries and the bishops of Girona, lords who, in the effort to consolidate their possessions in the territory, end up provoking a real crisis.
