The study and development of Public Relations underwent vigorous development throughout the 20th century. But activities that have not advanced in parallel in its theoretical and practical dimension are conditioned, among other aspects, by external vicissitudes, such as those related to identity or those of the actual structure of the activity that (in one way or other) are linked to the wide spectrum of communication, thus provoking complex and momentary conceptual overestimations. It is highlighted that the object of the study and knowledge of Public Relations is limited to organizations and publics. Its methodology is that of the social sciences themselves, and its epistemology can be recognised academically as in any other field of knowledge.
