Saff ron exports in 15th-century Barcelona: the intervention of German operators according to the “Law of the Germans and Savoyard” (1425-1445)

The aim of the present paper is to analyse the construction of the German commercial network in Catalonia during the first half of the XVth century, taking Barcelona city as a starting point. The German companies that have invested in commercial businesses in the Crown of Aragon focus a part of their investments on purchasing saff ron crocus coming from the areas of Barcelona’s hinterland. The documentary base that supports this research are the registers called Dret dels alemanys i saboyans of 1425-1445, which are conserved in the Archive of the Crown of Aragon.
