El Cronicó Barceloní I

The Cronicó Barceloní I belongs to the family of chronicles called Barcinonenses, one of the most important groups of early Catalan chronicles. Written between 1295 and 1301, it includes news from 801 to 1295; its main interest is the fact that it was written in Catalan, not in Latin as the majority of the Barcinonenses chronicles up to then. It is divided into three parts. The first one, with news from 985 to 1295, mainly gives accounts of the deaths of the counts of Barcelona and the kings of Aragon, important conquests (Majorca, Valencia) and natural phenomena (eclipses, earthquakes). The second part is a chronology of the kings of France from Charlemagne to Louis VII (1137-1180), with the conquest of Barcelona by Louis I (801); it ends with the establisment of the datation according to the year of the Incarnation (1180). The third part includes the different values of the silver mark in the period 1208-1223 and other news related to the currency.
