Political opposition and social unrest together with financial hardship and the pressure of taxation were at the heart of conflict in XV century Castile. This was apparent in the case of converts, struggles amongst rival factions, resistance to the rule of the nobles and disputes over power in the towns. In addition to this were the internal family conflicts (disputes over inheritance and succession, land and possessions, titles and public positions of power) as well as tension caused by day-to-day living together. All of these situations involved both men and women alike, albeit differently, depending on the social role played by each.
