The long reign of the count Ramon Berenguer I (1035-1076) culminate a complex process of structuration of power and memory and, at the same time, establish a moment of deep innovations. The aim of this paper is to analize some aspects of this reign, especially with respect to he strategies of legitimation of the countly power. It will illustrate some of the symbolic and practical forms, included the organization of historical memory, through which the count establish and justify the legitimity of his authority over the aristocracy and the Church of his county. Finally, it will propose a new datation of Wifred the Hairy’s legend.
