Between Realism and Camp Aesthetic: the Hollywood Spaces in the American Noir Narrative

While delighting in the crude realism and urban violence, the American noir narrative that emerged in the mid-20’s of the last century folds into some aspects of the postmodern camp aesthetic in that it repeatedly incorporates elements that, coming from popular culture, have acquired a certain degree of prestige and recognition over time. As this article attempts to demonstrate, this amalgam of dichotomous ingredients harmonizes in those police novels and stories that choose Hollywood spaces to ironically contextualize its intrigues.
