Italo Calvino and the new Italian fantastic in a transnational key

The article analyzes the influence of Italo Calvino - especially his non-fiction works - on the new generation of "weird" Italian writers. After having shown the history of the "weird" genre (a specific branch of the fantastic) in Italy and its theoretical and creative scope, we will focus on a specific “case study”: a text published by an Italian publisher in Catalan, within which appears a story by an Italian writer, Sara Beltrame. This text will give us the opportunity to reflect on the current Calvino’s influence, but also on the transnational dimension of hyper-contemporary Italian literature.
