From Origin to Encarnation: The Teo-carno-politics Strategy in Eva de la Argentina by María Seoane as Respresentative of the “Pink Tide” Cinematographic Populism

This article analyzes the process of cinematographic legitimation of the new 21^st century South American populisms or “Pink Tide”, focusing on Marías Seoane’s movie Eva de la Argentina (2010). This article will show how cinema became a fundamental tool to create, increase, and/or sustain these governments’ popularity through historical narratives that tell the stories of figures of the past, to present the current political leaders as the return of the national hero and its political agenda, creating teo-incar-politics. Seoane’s movie does this by using Eva Perón and the same cinematographic techniques that the first Peronist propaganda employed, to legitimize the messianic appearance of the new leader or an “arriving model” as if it was resuming an interrupted teleology.
