The Devil: A Literary Character in the Spanish Exile Theatre of 1939

In several plays of Spanish exile of 1939 the devil appears as one of the characters of the plot. In the seven plays studied, ranging from Angélica en el umbral de cielo by Eduardo Blanco Amor, from 1943, to Adán y Eva (Diálogos famosos) by Salvador de Madariaga, from 1970, exiled writers endow the character of the devil with stereotypical traits, inherited from a biblical and literary tradition. But, at the same time, they provide a novel dimension that starts from a vision of religion and human existence different from these literary models.

- 2. The journal 452ºF, in due respect to moral rights of a copyright, guarantees that:
- a. All papers will be evaluated according to the procedure already mentioned.
- b. All authors will receive either a positive or negative answer to their sending a paper for publication.
- c. All papers will be published unabridged. The journal might make changes in the typographical disposition according to the needs.
